Dr. Rohini Prasad

Dr. Rohini Prasad is involved in the design, development and applications of nuclear radiation detectors since 1977. He headed the Radiation Detectors Section in the Electronics Division of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay. He has developed a wide variety of ion chambers and proportional counters for neutron, gamma and other types of radiation. These devices are in use in reactors, accelerators, nuclear medicine, industry and other laboratories in reactor instrumentation, health physics, process control and other applications. Earlier, Prasad worked in the NDT and Quality Control section in Central Workshops, BARC, where he specialized in most of the non-destructive inspection methods and mechanical engineering inspection techniques for seven years.

Prasad obtained his bachelors degree in Physics from the University of Madras in 1968 with a first class. He completed his M.Sc. (Nuclear Physics) from Andhra University, Waltair, with a first class. He was awarded Ph.D. (Physics) by the University of Mumbai, Bombay in 1999 for his thesis entitled 'Indigenous development of nuclear radiation detectors and their applications in nuclear facilities'.
